Yahoo and Webex: Countering Microsoft
Posted by Stowe Boyd
I read at CNET that Yahoo and Webex are crafting an alliance, trying to counter the Microsoft Placeware threat. Steve Boom was evasive on the status of enterprise Yahoo Messenger:
"Yahoo would not give any indication of how well Yahoo Messenger Enterprise Edition is selling, nor would it talk about future product refinements. For now, the product is taking incremental steps to address current market demands.
"What we've clearly been hearing in the marketplace is to evolve it from text messaging, but to include real-time sharing and messaging," Steve Boom, senior vice president of Yahoo Enterprise Solutions, said in an interview."
I have always been surprised that Yahoo hasn't exploited the features of its service that are potentially very attractive to corporate customers, particularly IMvironments, which are HTML backdrops to IM sessions. Thes ecould be used as mini-portals for all sorts of business interactions, like transactions, CRM, or collaboration.
Oh well. No one ever listens to me anyway.
