With news clamped down tight and widespread unrest in Uzbekistan, how on earth do you find out what's really going on?
Bloggers already know the answer to this one.
Check out Registan.net for a comprehensive synthesis of reports and pointers to some important primary/eyewitness sources and a few chilling photo galleries from on the scene. Pay attention to some of the more interesting comments there too... including this one from Lyndon:
Keep it up - your blog is the gold standard of the blogosphere for thorough coverage on Central Asia.As you know, I dont usually focus on this part of the world, but I have become caught up in following these events - at first I was just interested to know what happened, then I realized the extent of the media blackout and the fact that I was getting hits from people in Uzbekistan, which has motivated me to spend more time on this than I would have otherwise. I am probably going to scale back after today (especially since the situation seems to have stabilized, although who knows what else might happen), but I will definitely be coming back to Registan when Im in need of an update.
Watch out - youre getting mentioned by sources that Karimovs guys may be monitoring (and Im sure they know about your site already).
Yow. Kinda puts things in perspective...
