For me, writing without having access to the web is like trying to sing with my ears are stopped up. I have become so used to reading while writing that I find it almost impossible to write in the way I used to think normal.

Yes, the interruptions you get from email, IM, RSS and so forth tend to disrupt working patterns - but on the other hand, its like having a library larger than that of Congress on hand, plus a team of research assistants to do the lookup for you - all you have to do is get the right question.....
