People Stealing Our Posts

I stumbled across a link to a post of mine, from a site called osviews.com. I clicked through from Technorati, and here's what it looks like:
But the whole piece is lifted from Get Real. The problem is that it's not really attributed to me. There is a link, sort of randomly assigned to one phrase in the piece, that links back to my post, but that's it. So it looks like they wrote the story. And they seem to do that to all the stuff posted there. That sucks.

I disagree that your work was stolen, however, your words should definitely have been thrown between quotation marks to avoid any confusion. Whoever "wrote" that post is lame for not including any of their own commentary and for not clearly quoting your work. I would have written the owner of the blog and admonished him/her for their mistake and ask that your text be properly quoted and attributed.

This is common practice now, folks set up blogs, steal other content, and wrap google ads around it to try and generate clicks.

Could also be one of those smart splogs where they mash up and regurgitate in a way that looks like real content. Danah Boyd and Dave Winer (if memory serves me correctly) posted similar items last year where they found weird bits of their content appearing on other blogs, complained about the practice and then later discovered that it was a splog just piecing random bits together. Can't remember exact details - just a thought.

Why not offer an abbreviated RSS feed? That's what I began doing when my content started getting "quoted". It can be irritating to some readers but life is a trade-off, no?

Murli - I am being syndicated at other locations, like the Web portal at Corante, so that's a problem. Also, many RSS users would rather get full feeds.
